America, We Need To Talk

I don’t love you anymore. I’m not sure I ever did. Who are you? Is this what you have always been, but I was too immature to notice? Every citizen has an opinion–uninformed, reasonlessly partisan–all their own, but never kept to themselves. Your politics disgust me–is there one among the elected not owned by special interest, working a personal agenda or power mad? Why can you not recognize that something is horribly wrong?

Considering all of this, isn’t it healthy, understandable that I find myself attracted to the healthcare system of Germany, Taiwan or Japan? The mature politics of the Nordic countries? The neutrality of Switzerland?

I can’t live with someone who lives off my back and credit with no hope for the future. You are getting in deep with some dangerous people over money. You’re mortgaging our future. You are violent. You’re probably going to cost me my retirement with your foolishness and shortsighted decisionmaking.

Maybe we can start over if you truly show me you are changing. That you value education, peace, prosperity and civil discourse. I have little hope for that, but I am open.

How can you demonstrate you’re serious? For starters, quit trying to be the boss of everyone. You’re a deadbeat with a terrible record on some of the same things you’re out there hassling others about. Bring home every military piece and person from every corner of the globe (at least the ones engaged in fighting, invasion, etc). Let the people come back to their lives and staunch the flow of money. Make the Defense Dept. live on half what they’re used to receiving. I know I am. If you’re going to pay soldiers, pay them to rebuild our roads (or their own hospitals), stop the gang and drug violence within our borders.

Then start cleaning house, like any idiot financial advisor on any early morning program would tell you. You can’t afford all of that bureaucracy. Sell off your unused secondhand items to make a little extra cash. Pay down your debt. Stop setting programs into motion you cannot afford. Why don’t you get a second job? Rent out the president for speaking engagements.

Make amends to those you’ve harmed. You’re stealing from me and then handing me back my own money for rent and food. Should I say thanks? End the income tax.

And if you want to make me fall back in love? If you have a couple of dollars left after you pay your monthly bills, why not pay people to remain childless, stay in school, to not cut the mature trees off their land, to not pollute. Grow extra food and feed some hungry people. Earn some love from your fellow man by offering a hand up, instead of a handout. Maybe then we won’t be such a big target for anger and violence.
