Forgotten Meditations

Actually I'm calling these forgotten meditations because I forgot to mention them in the previous post, but in the "real world" they are probably far more forgotten than in my own mind.

Yoganidra -- this refers to the "yogic sleep" which is a state of awareness allowing the human body to physically sleep while the conscious mind remains awake and fully conscious. Said to be a mark of high development, I've had problems with enjoying this one because I don't have anything important to consider most of the time, and when I do it certainly doesn't take all night. I wake up tired, envying my physical body the night's rest it got.

Susumna Channel -- the "sound channel" meditation of the ancient yogis is accessed by concentrating on a particular point outside the body, just above and to the right of your head. Listening concentration is required in the same way that seeing concentration is required in other forms of meditation. Good results from this one, although it isn't one I personally favor. Heavenly music, the sounds of angelic bells, and the voices of gods and goddesses are commonly reported by devotees who practice this art. I've heard jazz occasionally.

Fire and Water Mixing -- another old Taoist meditation, this one combines the energies of two primal chakras through a visualization, and I've found it very effective in stimulating the out of body experience.

Rainbow Body -- This one's a mystery although I have a few clues to it. If you master this meditation, at the end of your life your physical body is converted to energy, some of which is returned to the world around you, and the rest of it exits this existence as a glowing orb of energy. People who practice this leave no remains behind except clothing, hair, fingernails and toenails -- the trappings and dead parts of the body. This is where an old Buddhist expression regarding enlightenment originated: "And then he went to the Dakas, leaving only his shoes behind."
